General FAQ
Who Can Apply?
Anyone aged between 18 and 55 is welcome to apply.
We actively encourage complete beginners to take part and, in fact, many of our participants have never put on a pair of boxing gloves before.
Previous boxing or combat sports experience does not automatically prevent you from taking part. However, you musttell us about any previous experience when you apply so we can make safe and appropriate matchmaking decisions.
Applications may be declined where this is considered necessary for safety or operational reasons.
Examples include:
- undisclosed medical conditions;
- previous combat sports experience that has not been declared;
- behaviour that falls below WWCBS standards;
- lack of commitment to the programme;
- circumstances that may place yourself or others at unnecessary risk.
What Happens During the Eight Weeks?
Every WWCBS programme lasts eight weeks.
You’ll train alongside a group of people all working towards the same goal—stepping into the ring on fight night.
Weeks 1–2 — Building the Foundations
You’ll learn the fundamental punches, movement and footwork that form the basis of boxing.
At the same time, your fitness journey begins as your body adapts to the demands of training.
Weeks 3–4 — Learning to Defend
Once you’ve started to develop your offence, we’ll introduce defensive skills and movement.
You’ll begin understanding not only how to throw punches effectively, but also how to avoid them.
Training intensity increases as your confidence grows.
Weeks 5–6 — Bringing Everything Together
Technique, movement and defence begin to work together.
You’ll take part in carefully controlled partner drills designed to build confidence and prepare you safely for your bout.
By now, your fitness and boxing ability will have improved dramatically.
Weeks 7–8 — Fight Ready
The final two weeks are about sharpening everything you’ve learned.
Your confidence grows.
Your fitness peaks.
Your preparation is complete.
All that’s left is Your Moment. Under the Lights.
How Often Do I Need to Train?
WWCBS provides three coached sessions every week.
Participants are expected to attend at least two sessions each week, equating to a minimum attendance of over 50% across the programme.
If you miss a session, you’ll be provided with guidance so you can complete additional training independently.
You are welcome to undertake extra training elsewhere, but WWCBS coaching sessions should always remain your priority.
I've Never Boxed Before...
Perfect.
Many of our participants have never boxed before.
Our programme has been designed to teach complete beginners everything they need to know over eight structured weeks.
No experience is necessary—only commitment, honesty and a willingness to challenge yourself.
I'm Really Nervous
Good.
Almost everyone feels nervous before they start.
Taking on something completely new is never easy—but that’s exactly why it’s can be so rewarding.
Growth happens outside your comfort zone.
The people who walk through our doors feeling nervous are often the ones who leave having achieved something they never thought possible.
Be brave.
Trust the process.
We’ll guide you every step of the way.
Medical & Safety
Your safety is our highest priority.
Everything we do – from our application process to the final bell – is designed to help ensure every participant has the safest possible experience.
Can I Fail the Medical?
Yes.
Every participant must be medically fit to train and compete.
If the appointed ringside doctor believes that competing would place your health or safety at risk, you will not be permitted to box.
We understand this can be disappointing, but no bout is more important than your long-term health.
The doctor’s decision is final and will always be respected by WWCBS.
Why Do I Need to Tell You About My Medical History?
Before joining the programme, you’ll be asked to complete medical questionnaires and declarations.
You must tell us about all relevant medical conditions, previous injuries, medications, surgeries and anything else that could affect your ability to train or compete safely.
Even if you think something isn’t important, we would much rather know about it and assess the situation properly.
Our aim isn’t to stop people boxing—it’s to make sure everyone who steps into the ring can do so as safely as possible.
Why Do I Need to Tell You About Previous Combat Sports Experience?
Fairness starts before the first punch is thrown.
Previous experience can provide a significant advantage, even if it was many years ago.
For that reason, every applicant must honestly declare any previous experience in boxing or other combat sports, including amateur boxing, professional boxing, white collar boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, wrestling or any similar discipline.
Having previous experience does not automatically prevent you from taking part.
However, failing to disclose it could create an unsafe mismatch and undermine the fairness of the event.
What Happens If I Provide False Information?
Providing false, misleading or incomplete information is taken extremely seriously.
If WWCBS discovers that a participant has deliberately failed to disclose relevant medical information or previous combat sports experience, they may be immediately removed from the programme or disqualified from the event.
In serious cases, providing false information may also leave you personally responsible for any consequences arising from that non-disclosure, including injury to yourself or your opponent where permitted by law.
Our priority will always be protecting the safety of everyone involved.
No experience is necessary—only commitment, honesty and a willingness to challenge yourself.
How Are Opponents Matched?
Every bout is carefully matched using a structured assessment process.
When selecting opponents, we consider factors including:
- Body weight
- Boxing ability
- Previous combat sports experience
- Fitness and conditioning
As an additional safeguard, WWCBS will not normally match competitors where there is more than a 10% difference in body weight between them.
Our objective is to create contests that are competitive, enjoyable and, above all, as safe and fair as possible.
Who Decides Whether I Can Fight?
The final decision always rests with the appointed ringside doctor.
Even if you have completed the full eight-week programme and feel ready to compete, the doctor may decide that it is not safe for you to box.
If this happens, their decision will be respected without exception.
Your health will always come before the event.
What Happens If the Doctor Says I Can't Box?
If the ringside doctor determines that you are medically unfit to compete, you will not be permitted to take part in your bout.
Unfortunately, because the event, venue, staffing and associated costs have already been committed, tickets purchased for the event are non-refundable.
While we appreciate this may be disappointing, these decisions are made solely in the interests of participant safety.
Is Safety More Important Than Putting on the Show?
Absolutely.
Every decision made by WWCBS is guided by one principle:
No event is more important than the health and wellbeing of our participants.
If at any stage we believe it would be unsafe for someone to continue training or compete, we will always choose safety first.
That’s the standard we expect of ourselves, our coaches and our medical team—and it’s a standard we will never compromise.
Fundraising & Tickets
Every WWCBS event is about more than stepping into the ring.
It’s about challenging yourself, creating lifelong memories, bringing people together and making a positive impact beyond fight night.
Why Do We Fundraise?
Every WWCBS event proudly supports a nominated heart health charity.
Heart disease continues to affect millions of people and their families across the UK. Through our events, we hope to raise both awareness and valuable funds to support research, education and initiatives that help improve heart health.
By taking part, you’re not only achieving something extraordinary for yourself—you’re also helping make a difference for others.
How Much Do I Need to Raise?
Every participant is expected to raise a minimum of £40 for our nominated heart health charity.
While this is the minimum requirement, we encourage every participant to set themselves a higher goal.
Our recommended fundraising target is £250, and many participants choose to exceed this through the support of family, friends and colleagues.
Every pound raised helps contribute towards an important cause and becomes part of your personal achievement.
Why Do I Need to Sell Tickets?
Fight night is made special by the people who come to support you.
The atmosphere created by family, friends and supporters is what transforms an ordinary evening into an unforgettable experience.
Ticket sales also play an important role in helping WWCBS deliver professionally organised events. Revenue contributes towards the significant costs involved in staging each event, including:
- Professional venue hire
- Event production
- Lighting and sound
- Security
- Photography and videography
- Officials and event staff
- Boxing equipment
- Administration and event operations
Every ticket sold helps us continue delivering high-quality events while giving participants the experience they deserve.
How Many Tickets Am I Expected to Sell?
Every participant is expected to actively promote their event.
As a minimum expectation, participants should sell at least 10 tickets, with most participants aiming to sell 20 or more.
This helps create the electric atmosphere that makes WWCBS events so memorable while contributing towards the successful delivery of the event.
What Happens If I Don't Sell 10 Tickets?
Selling tickets forms part of your commitment as a WWCBS participant.
If you do not make a genuine effort to achieve the minimum expectation of 10 ticket sales, WWCBS reserves the right to withdraw your place from the event.
Our aim is never to prevent someone from competing, but every participant is expected to contribute towards making the event a success for themselves, their supporters and everyone involved.
Are Tickets Refundable?
All ticket sales are final.
Because venues, production, medical services and staffing are booked well in advance, tickets are non-refundable.
This also applies if:
- a participant withdraws from the programme;
- a participant is unable to compete due to medical reasons;
- an opponent is unable to compete due to medical reasons.
Where an event is postponed by WWCBS, tickets will normally remain valid for the rearranged date.
Can I Buy VIP Tickets?
Many WWCBS events offer premium VIP experiences, including ringside seating where venue layout allows.
VIP availability varies between venues, and details will be published when tickets become available.
Fight Night Experience
After eight weeks of commitment, determination and hard work, the moment you’ve been working towards finally arrives.
